What are the common TDS rates in India?
194C (contractor) is 1% for individuals/HUF and 2% otherwise; 194J professional fees is 10% and technical/FTS is 2%; 194I rent of land/building is 10% and plant/machinery is 2%; 194H commission is 2% (cut from 5% by the Finance (No.2) Act 2024, effective 1 Oct 2024); 194Q on purchases is 0.1%. This calculator uses the same rate logic BillForge applies on real vendor payments.
What happens if the vendor has not given a PAN?
Section 206AA applies and TDS must be deducted at 20%, or the normal rate if it is higher. Tick the 'no PAN' box in the calculator to see this override take effect.
When does Section 194Q apply?
194Q applies if your business turnover crossed ₹10 crore in the previous financial year. You then deduct 0.1% TDS, but only on the part of your purchases from a single vendor that exceeds ₹50 lakh in the year. The calculator works out the taxable slice for you.
What is Section 206AB?
206AB applies to vendors who have not filed their income tax returns (non-filers). For them TDS is charged at the higher of twice the normal rate or 5%. It layers on top of the section rate.
Is this a statutory tool I can rely on for filing?
It uses the same engine BillForge uses for TDS on invoices and Form 16A/26Q, but tax positions can depend on facts the tool does not know. For filing, confirm with your CA. BillForge then generates the TDS certificates automatically.
